Last week I went on WWF’s site and calculated my ecological footprint. Expecting the worst since I’m a large carnivore, I was shocked when I saw my result.
I had an ecological footprint of 64%, meaning I use only 64% of the resources the earth has laid away for me. But I could still improve this result. WWF recommended me to invest more in durable forms of energy like solar energy. But placing solar pannels is still quite expensive so that might be something for the future.
WWF recommended me also to buy more second-hand stuff. So I’m thinking of maybe buying furniture and other household products second-hand.
Yet I don’t think it’s possible for a Western European man like me to lower this 64% due to the way Western Europeans are used to live. But I think, after a few years, Western Europeans and also North-Americans may be able to change the way they live. But by the time we changed our lives, we have probably already used all of Earth’s resources.
Let me know what you think!
